Early Morning Pasture, upload feito originalmente por johonbravo.
This is an early morning view from the window of my new apartment on the edge of the campus.

They year is now well under way here at Word of Life. I finally moved into my permanent apartment on campus here. I spent thanksgiving with friends here at Word of Life, and staff, students, and different churches participated in our annual “Turkey Bowl” football game.

Right now we in admissions are busy making contacts with local churches and schools and am looking for ways we can get to know some of the area teens. We are planning for our Campus days coming up in November with some exciting activities and events planned.

It is very clear that God is already making an impact in the lives of many students. Last year we were praying for the brother of one of my friends who went to school with me. He was involved in drugs & alcohol, and his life was on a really bad road. After much prayer, he showed up this summer at our summer camp campfire and was challenged by the Word of God. Having accepted Christ when he was younger, he was convicted of his lifestyle, and made the decision to live all out for Christ, and spend a year studying God’s word here at Word of Life.
His passion for Christ and His zeal for the gospel has already resulted in the Lord using him to lead several people to Christ! One of them being a friend of his from home, who now himself, only a couple weeks old in Christ, has a burning desire to read His Word, and live a life honoring to Him!

It is exciting to see Christ work in the lives of the students, and its exciting as I get to know people who are planning on coming next year, and to see how God is working in their lives as well.

The Word of Life Impact Team is almost ready to go on their first tour. They have been practicing for hours each day to get their music and songs down, and have already sung at a few different events and churches.

The other week we went out and did a photoshoot around the campus, so here are a few pics from that.
To see these and more from the photoshoot visit me flickr page.

Summer Camp Coming Up

// June 25th, 2007 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

Break went by fast in Nova Scotia, and I flew back to Ontario just over a week ago. A large group of us Students from WOLBI went to Canada’s Wonderland and enjoyed twisting, turning, and flying around on coasters and other rides. About a week ago we started our first week of counselor training where we learned about many different aspects of youth counseling, specifically in a camp environment, and also took Red Cross First Aid Training. After the exam on Saturday we were done our first week of training and enjoyed the rest of the day off. My friend and I were feeling quite industrious that afternoon and decided to make some use of a dirty pond located down in a gorge on property. So we searched the barns and property for materials to make a raft, and spend the remainder of the afternoon pounding nails, sawing boards, and strapping Styrofoam and butter buckets to the bottom of our raft. After Dinner we made our maiden voyage across the pond and declared the vessel unsinkable. Today a small group of set off to find a lake several kilometers behind the school property as it was a beautiful sunny day. We found it with little trouble and spent a couple hours swimming there.
But what lies ahead for us now is Summer Camp 2007. Our theme this year at Word of Life Youth Camp (www.wol.ca) is “HEROS”. We are all getting pumped up and prepared to really get to know and have an impact on the kids and teens that will be coming here over the summer! We kick things off in one week with 3 teen weeks followed by 5 more weeks of kids camp. We are excited to share with these youth what Christ has done in our lives while getting to know them through the tons of awesome activities here at camp (such as mountain biking, bmx-ing, high ropes, sports, archery, swimming, paintball, hiking, etc…). We have some awesome speakers here this year to really challenge the kids, and Program has some really exciting new ideas to throw at us! Be praying for continual reliance on God to give us all the strength to make it through keeping our focus on Him. I will be counseling and helping out with the music ministry
I will be beginning my ministry in the Bible Institute Admissions department on August 1st, and so it will be exciting to see how God will use me in getting people interested in spending a year studying the Bible. I need to raise $600/month support to help me in my ministry this next year, but most of all I need people to pray for me. I have really learned a lot about the power of prayer this last year. If anyone is called to help me financially or through prayer I really appreciate it!

End of School Year

This afternoon a group of us in the student body rented paintball guns and played paintball all afternoon back on WOL property. I think we all sweated off 5lbs in the sun, but it was great fun. Tomorrow is the last day of classes at Word of Life. I write exams on Friday then leave for the 2.5 hour drive to get a flight in Toronto after I finish. One of my friends who came here from Nova Scotia has “connections” with Air Canada and can fly herself and friends for really good fares, so 5 of us are flying with her to Nova Scotia for a two week break. I get to go home and spend some time with friends and parents back home. Its been a great year, and I will return to WOL after my break to work with the Summer Camp Youth program here. I have decided to stay on and work at Word of Life as a Short-Term Missionary in the Bible Institute Admissions Department. I will begin work on August 1st and am planning on staying for a two-year term.

All the details will be in the letter I will be sending out to people, so if you want to be on my list please email me or leave a comment with your mailing address.

Photography

Ever since I was really young I always wanted to get into photography, and whenever I had a camera to play with I always would try to find an interesting shot or funny angle to do something with…But never did I do anything with my interest…Well until recently. I just started looking at old pictures I had taken, and began touching them up and taking more with my less than perfect camera. Also I was able to get a really good deal on a nice digital camera that didn’t even touch my bank account through an interesting twist of events. And so I have started a photo blog with some friends where I hope to put up some of the pictures I have taken and/or played with a bit. Here are some of the galleries I put up:

Easter

Gina and her good friend Angela drove up to Owen Sound from Pennsylvania for Easter. We spent our time at Tim & Katie Chambers, right in town. Gina and Ang are making some exciting plans to go down to Brazil this summer for about a month to help out with the ministry of some of our friends down in Chapeco, SC. I am hoping that next year I will be able to go down on a trip as well called Light In Action. We would be travelling around Brazil on a music and drama ministry team talking to teans and youth. The culture is very open to the gospel and we would be ministering in Public and Catholic schools, and churches, while travelling around in a bus.

It has been a while since I have updated you guys, but in March I was able to head back to Nova Scotia because Testify did our Eastern tour, visiting churches and schools in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI. We had a pretty sweet time, and were able to visit some of the sites in Nova Scotia such as Peggy’s Cove and Citadel Hill. I put a whole bunch of pictures up in the gallery of our trip.

At the Bible Institute we are into our Spring Quarter and have just finished studing Ecclesiology (Study of the Church), and Eschatology (Study of Prophecy & End Times), and we are heading into Church History, while still in an in depth study of the book of Romans. So it will be an exciting quarter. We have the opportunity to be taught by John Whitcomb and Reynold Showers.

I am working in the Bible Institute Admissions department 5 hours a week, talking to people interested in attending the Bible Institute and making sure they can get here. I am soon going to begin raising support for the coming year, to work as a full time Intern as an Admissions Counselor here. I plan on working here for a year or two then heading off to New Tribes Language Institute in Durham, ON.

Lots of Snow

// February 6th, 2007 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

Remember the valley I mentioned in the last post? (where cars would go in and couldnt get out). Well this first picture is us at the bottom.

The Next photo is actually the top of a fence post here at Word of Life. Maitenance was busy today taking several feet of snow off all the roofs. It has been snowing every day here a substancial amount…actually it is still snowing as I post this. The last photo is of my poor car….I just dug it out and it is now buried again, and today someone slid into it with a big Ministry van and broke the corner lights on my passenger side. What can ya do eh? The rest of the pics I just took are in the gallery.

Spam and Cold…two evils

// February 5th, 2007 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

I just don’t understand spammers. Today I received an email from Satan, Aslan, Ishmael, Serendipity, and the Beatles. Hmm….I also keep getting repeated emails suggesting I should buy some Weight Loss pills. Hmmm….Do they know me? Well, I do eat alot at Word of Life…
On another note, The Colts Won the SB, and it was a good game!
I just got back from New Liskeard ON this evening. Its about 6 1/2 hours North of Owen Sound (where I am). Its pretty chilly up there. I’m not sure if I saw any pavement the entire time I was up there. It was packed snow all over the “roads”. I guess letting cars drive over the snow instead of plowing saves $$. Traveling on the way back was arctic. The four lane highway had about 2 inches of packed frozen snow on it. When we got to HorseShoe valley, it was a nighmare. The entire valley was filled with cars who couldn’t get up either side. Luckily our big diesel van had the back packed full of our sound and video equipment, which aided our ascent. However our time up in New Liskeard was well worth it. The SnowCamp we helped out with went great, and we had several teens accept Christ into their lives, and several more dedicate their lives too him. Despite the less than warming tempuratures, we had an adventure on a horse-drawn sleigh out into the woods, where we lit a huge bonfire, roasted hotdogs & marshmellows, and went tubing down a small hill in the woods. Being a person who likes warmth I tended to stay near the fire, which ultimately ended in about a dozen little fire-holes in my coat and pants. Oh Well. At least I was warm. I put up tons of photos in the gallery of our weekend.
